Resources for Learning & Success

Learning chemistry continues after lecture and laboratory sessions end. That’s why the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry and Gannon University offers learning resources to keep students on track and to support their learning goals. ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ offers a variety of tools to help students develop solid study habits and refine their writing skills. Check out the resources below to catalyze your academic success!

Faculty Office Hours

Faculty offer office hours to provide you with opportunities for personalized support outside of class. It’s a time for you to ask questions, dive deeper into course material, and get clarification on anything that might be unclear. Whether you need help with a specific concept, want guidance on assignments, or just need advice on how to succeed, office hours are your chance to engage with faculty one-on-one and get the support you need to achieve success.

Major Academic Advising

As a student in the chemistry, biochemistry, and 3+2 cooperative chemical engineering programs, you will be assigned a major advisor who is a faculty member in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. Academic advisors will engage in both formal and informal advising. As an advisee, you can request meetings with your academic advisor at any time to discuss your academic performance, internships and research opportunities, as well as career or post-undergraduate education goals. There are several University designated advising dates during the academic year. These include: 

  • 4-Week Grade Meetings: 4-week grades are provided to all students following the first four weeks of class in the fall and spring semesters. You will meet with your academic advisor to discuss your academic performance at the time of four-week grades.
  • Mid-term Grade Meetings: mid-term grades are provided to all students at the midpoint of each semester. You will meet with your academic advisor to discuss your academic progress at the time of mid-term grades. 
  • Advising Day:  a designated day each semester in which classes are not held between 8 am and 4 pm to allow you to meet with your advisors to discuss your schedule for the next semester and to address any other questions about your progress or academic performance.

STEM Center

The Gannon University STEM Center is located in the Nash Library and Student Learning Commons. Students can get personalized support for almost any STEM course, especially first and second-year classes! Scheduling is quick and easy online, with options for both in-person and virtual appointments. The STEM Center tutors are ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ students who have excelled in their STEM coursework and are here to help you succeed. Best of all, it’s always free and available to all ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ students!

Stem-Pass

STEM-PASS is a peer-assisted study program designed for historically challenging courses, including many introductory and upper-level chemistry courses. Expert tutors attend classes to stay up-to-date and run multiple study sessions each week. It’s a great way to kickstart your studying, collaborate with peers, and ensure you're on track with the material.

Writing and Research Center

The Gannon University Writing and Research Center is located in the Nash Library and Student Learning Commons. The Writing and Research Center to supports students at any stage of the writing process, for any course. Whether you need help understanding your assignment, developing a topic, outlining your argument, or navigating the research process, they’ve got you covered. Enjoy one-on-one consultations with trained writing consultants, including real-time virtual tutoring.

Student Success Center

The Student Success Center (SSC) offers a range of services to support students at Gannon University, including academic advising, career counseling, tutoring, and more. Using a proactive advising model, the SSC helps students overcome obstacles to success and connect with campus resources. The center is home to Academic Advising, Career Exploration & Development, Accessibility Services, and TRIO Student Support Services, all working together to help students achieve their academic and career goals.
