Program Overview

Gannon University’s Master of Athletic Training program prepares students to deliver patient-centered health care through classroom and clinical education experiences. Students will study essential topics including injury prevention, clinical examination and diagnosis, acute care of injuries and illnesses, and more. Students will also be well prepared to sit for the national certification examination through the Board of Certification Inc. Athletic trainers work within a variety of health care settings including universities, hospitals and physician offices, industrial settings, performing arts, and more.

What Makes Us Special

Our Curriculum is designed with you in mind. It is centered on student learning theory and sequentially designed courses to prioritize your well-being and professional development. You will gain significant didactic and hands-on experience as you matriculate toward autonomy while preparing to pass the Board of Certification exam and provide excellent evidence-based, patient-centered care. The entire curriculum is less than two years and can be offered as a stand-alone 2-year master's degree or as part of an accelerated 5-year plan resulting in a Bachelor’s and Master’s.

Clinical Experiences progress in a manner to help develop your skills in professional settings on live patients with the goal of preparing you to work independently after graduation. Students participate in clinical experiences at local universities, including ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ’s nationally recognized athletic program, local public and private high schools, and two regional hospitals with multiple physicians’ offices in general and surgical orthopedics and general practitioners. Students may also engage in an immersive experience in any setting they choose, anywhere in the country or abroad.

Our Facilities offer advanced technology for therapeutic modalities, motion and gait analysis, balance rehabilitation, diagnostic imaging, and patient simulation. We have a program-dedicated lab, shared labs with other interprofessional health professions, a high fidelity-interactive simulation center, and a human performance research lab. Interprofessional collaboration is a mainstay at ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ, including physical therapy, occupational therapy, nursing, radiological sciences, respiratory therapy, physician assistant, and speech language pathology, and biomedical engineering programs.

Our students have been very successful over the past several years with 100% of our students passing the national certification exam and 100% obtaining employment in athletic training within a few months of graduation. They have won several national awards and had articles published in professional journals.

Keep Your Summer! We have limited summer requirements compared to most other programs and have several clinical experiences that enable you to travel anywhere in the country you would like to learn.
