New program director brings decades of SLP leadership to Gannon University

Dr. Ahmed M. Abdelal, the new program director for ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ's Master of Science in speech-language pathology (SLP) program in Ruskin, Fla.,

Gannon University proudly welcomes Ahmed M. Abdelal, Ph.D., DHS, CCC-SLP, as the new program director for its Master of Science in speech-language pathology (SLP) program in Ruskin, Fla., effective Jan. 5.  

Abdelal brings more than 25 years of experience as a speech-language pathologist, educator and academic leader and has held leadership roles across graduate and undergraduate SLP programs at multiple institutions. He most recently served as the director of the communication sciences and disorders program and the director of the speech-language pathology graduate program at the University of Texas at Tyler. 

 Abdelal earned a Bachelor of Arts in English language and literature from Assiut University in Sohag, a Master of Arts in stylistics from Cairo University, Egypt, and a Master of Science in speech-language pathology from Worcester State College in Massachusetts. Continuing his educational journey, Abdelal earned his doctorate in English language and linguistic analysis from Cairo University and his Doctor of Health Science from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.  

Abdelal has extensive experience directing and developing accredited speech-language pathology programs. He has taught a wide range of undergraduate and graduate courses. His research interests include language disorders; social communication disorders; fluency disorders; anatomy of speech, swallowing, language and hearing; and the neurobiology of communication, learning, memory, emotions and racial/ethnic discrimination. 

In addition, Abdelal has developed and presented numerous educational workshops and lectures and is a multi-year recipient of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association’s award for continuing education.

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ’s speech-language pathology program in Ruskin fosters the development of highly skilled and compassionate speech-language pathologists. The program focuses on developing leadership skills, offering person-centered service and a dedication to lifelong learning.
