Christine Saber, Ph.D., an associate professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, has been awarded the 2025 Outreach Volunteer of the Year by the Erie Local Section of the American Chemical Society.

The award recognizes the contributions of American Chemical Society volunteers who dedicate their time and energy to sharing the excitement of chemistry with their communities.

Saber has made a significant impact through her leadership of the Erie Chemistry Olympiad, drawing on her experience as a national mentor for the U.S. National Chemistry Olympiad. Under her guidance, the local Olympiad has grown stronger and more inclusive.

In November, she delivered an inspiring talk hosted by the Erie section, helping demystify the Olympiad process and encouraging broader participation from both schools and volunteers.

Beyond her work with the Olympiad, Saber serves as the section’s secretary, where she plays a key role in connecting members to volunteer opportunities and strengthening the sense of community within the local section.

Her passion for outreach and chemical education continues to elevate the Erie section and inspire the next generation of chemists.
